History
Over 25 Years of Service to the Youth of our Community!
Wake Teen Medical Services was established as a specialized medical practice in 1977 by Dr. Michael Durfee and a coalition of concerned community providers and parents. Using a grant from the Junior League of Raleigh and Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust and Space at (then) Wake Medical Center, we sought to provide age-appropriate, comprehensive primary health services to teens in recognition that adolescents have unique medical and psychosocial needs that are not met within the existing systems of care. Wake Teen Medical Services was incorporated five years later in 1983 as a not for profit, 501(c)(3) in order to seek funding to sustain its mission and expand its vision. Wake Teen continues to be the only comprehensive health clinic in Wake County specializing in adolescent care and providing services to uninsured and underinsured youth between the ages of 10 and 23 at greatly reduced fees.
